Students Dazzle

Wow!!  TC Christian's annual Spring musical 'His Corner of the Sky' had its finale last Saturday night and by all accounts, it was a hit!  Kudos to our amazing performers who spanned 2nd grade through 12th grade.  Backed by an incredible live band, the kids put on a show that exceeded expectations.   Well done, everyone.  Special thanks to Kristyn Taylor for putting the whole show together, and to her dedicated music team of Andrea Critchfield and Louise Scholtus who kept the kids on time and in tune.  You can check out more pictures hereThanks to Peaceful Exposures Photography for sharing.

PTO Fundraiser Breaks Records!
The PTO recently challenged Elementary and Middle School students to a reading contest.  The objective was two-fold:  encourage reading and raise some needed funds for the PTO.  Students went door-to-door asking for pledges on the number of minutes they'd try to read, with the top reader and fundraiser from Elementary and Middle School in line to earn a cool prize.  While this was all going on, the High School students were busy raising money for the same cause but with a slightly different method, namely purchasing the opportunity to bless select teachers with the gift of pie (see 3MT 3-15-18).

The numbers are in and what a terrific effort!  Over $11,800 was raised between the readers and the pie teams with all proceeds benefitting the PTO.

  • Top reader in Elementary was Emeline Phelps who logged 1,180 minutes of reading in March
  • Top fundraiser in Elementary was Ethan Novak who raised $714
  • Top reader in Middle School was Carter Blodgett who logged 1,552 minutes of reading in March
  • Top fundraiser in Middle School was Emma Staub who raised $290
    • Honorable Mentions go to Brant Blodgett and Judah Cole who both logged over 1,000 minutes of reading.

The top readers and fundraisers all received prizes for their hard work.  Well done to everyone.

TCCS In The News
TV 9 & 10 recently featured TC Christian on the evening news covering the PoWeR Bag donation hand-over at Elementary chapel.  (Click the picture for the news story).  You'll recall TC Christian Elementary students were asked to donate books to fill PoWeR Book Bags.

PoWeR Book Bags (P-Play, W-Write, R-Read) are bags of literacy shared at food and baby pantries (and sometimes community events). The mission is twofold: to increase children's language and literacy experiences, AND to grow the number of books in their personal collections.

It works like this - When children and their families come to feed their bellies, the children can select books and book bags with a puppet and writing materials to feed their brains. At each future visit, the children are invited to collect more books and writing supplies. PoWeR! Book Bags are intended to be tools for building language and literacy with children and their families as they play, write, and read with the materials. Research strongly supports these goals as ways to help children become successful, literate members of society.

The Elementary students at TC Christian donated 1,111 books for the effort in just two weeks! That's HUGE!!!  5th Grade teacher, Faith Erickson (and her Spirit Week wig), was on hand to present the massive donation of books to Kara Gregory, founder and president of PoWeR! Book Bags.  Kara said that we are the only school to-date to have done a book drive for her organization!  Well done, Elementary students and staff

Drivers Needed For Career Exploration Field Trip
On April 4. the Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors will be attending a field trip to Ferris State University to explore various career fields.  This is part of a process where students will meet and do on-sites with professors, managers, business owners, and entrepreneurs from around the area in order to discuss career options.  Cars will leave TCCS at 8:15am, returning at 3pm.  If you can drive and/or chaperone for the day, we really need you.  Please contact Beth Price to discuss.

Community:  The Promise
“The Promise” is a 90-minute musical drama that depicts the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ as told in the New Testament.  Presented by New Hope Community Church as a gift to the community, "The Promise" is an Easter tradition and is filled with powerful music, beautiful choreography, vibrant costumes and first rate special visual effects that nearly 6000 people each year come from all over the state to see.  Click the picture for a preview.

I Am Second with Colt McCoy

“For me, I’m successful because I have Jesus Christ living inside of me,” says Colt McCoy, starting quarterback for the University of Texas.

College football’s biggest stage provides Colt McCoy with a platform to share his story with others. What is your story? And how is it being told?

"And they have overcome (conquered) him (Satan) by the blood of the Lamb and by the utterance of their testimony..."  Revelation 12:11a

The stories of real people and real lives tell of different journeys and different struggles. But all tell the story of hope.  And hope is found in Jesus Christ.  (Produced by I Am Second).
