Mrs. Jennifer Karczewski

MS/HS Principal

I’m Jennifer Karczewski, the Middle & High School Principal and a member of the Collaborative Leadership Team at Traverse City Christian School. Originally from Grand Blanc, Michigan, I moved to Traverse City in 2003 after getting married. I hold a Bachelor of Science from the University of Michigan and a master’s degree from Central Michigan University. My husband and I share our home with our two daughters, Abigail, a sophomore at TCCS, and Sophia, a recent TCCS graduate from the class of 2025, along with our big goldendoodle, Freddie, and Abigail’s beloved rabbit, Norman. As a family, we attend New Hope Community Church, where we find community and spiritual grounding.

What I cherish most about TCCS is the authentic, Christ-centered community that fosters deep connections between students and teachers. Here, relationships are the heartbeat of our school, with staff who genuinely care about nurturing students both academically and spiritually. Every subject is taught through a biblical worldview, helping students discover God’s truth in all aspects of life. For a parent considering TCCS, know that it’s more than just a school. TCCS is a Christ-centered community where students are known, loved, and challenged to grow in every area of life. If you’re looking for a place where faith is woven into learning, where teachers truly invest in students, and where your child will be encouraged to become the person God created them to be, then TCCS may be the right place for your family. It’s a privilege to serve at TC Christian where faith, learning, and mentorship intertwine to shape students who are equipped to think critically, lead with integrity, and serve with compassion, all while being grounded in a strong foundation of faith and character.

Front Office/Administrative Assistant

I grew up all around Michigan but spent almost 20 years of my adult life in the Kalkaska/Mancelona area. I lived in North Carolina for 2 years and worked as an administrative assistant at the Biltmore Equestrian Center. I loved my time in NC but moved back here to Michigan in 2007. I met my husband while working at the Grand Traverse Resort, and we married in 2010. Our oldest daughter, Genesis, was born in 2013, and I can’t believe she will be 13 this year. Our youngest daughter, Eden, came along in 2016, and she just turned 10 in June. We moved downstate in 2017 and are excited to be moving back to the area. I love animals and being a mom; dogs are my passion, but I am also a Disney fanatic. God’s goodness has been evident over these last few weeks, and I’m so humbled by His love and provision for us. He is good all the time!

K-7th Music

I’m Brooke Bogan, the Music Teacher at Traverse City Christian School (TCCS). I grew up in Pulaski, Wisconsin, with a deep passion for music, which led me to graduate from Interlochen Arts Academy and pursue degrees in French horn performance and music education from the Eastman School of Music and the University of Southern California. Beyond teaching, I perform in orchestras across Michigan and play piano, guitar, and violin. I’m also a sports enthusiast, cheering for the Milwaukee Brewers and Green Bay Packers. My family moved to Traverse City in August 2024, and I’m married to Kit, the senior pastor at East Bay Calvary Church. We have three children—Caroline (13), Jack (11), and Lucy (6)—and two gray cats, Corduroy and Meadow. At East Bay Calvary Church, I contribute by playing guitar on the worship team and serving coffee on Sunday mornings.

At TCCS, I cherish the freedom to sing about and discuss Jesus openly, praying with my students and colleagues in a supportive environment. TCCS students are unique in how they learn, play, worship, and pray together, fostering a strong sense of community. Among our core values, the Authentic Biblical Community resonates most with me, as it allows us to build each other up in our faith. To families considering TCCS, I encourage you to pray and seek God’s guidance for your decision. Visit our school to experience firsthand the welcoming, Christ-centered community we offer—it’s a place where your family can grow spiritually and thrive.

Mrs. Erica Boven

MS Science

My name is Erica Boven, and I serve as the Middle School Science teacher and Director of Community & Culture at Traverse City Christian School (TCCS). As a Northern Michigan native, I’m passionate about the outdoors, relishing the distinct beauty of our four seasons—whether it’s summer on the beach or winter on the slopes. My journey with faith began after earning my Bachelor’s in Education from Western Michigan University. Returning to this area, I immersed myself in church and young adult gatherings, growing deeply in my relationship with Jesus. My husband, Nate, and I married in 2003, and together we’ve pursued God’s calling, initially as volunteer youth leaders and later in full-time ministry. After teaching in public schools, I earned my Master’s in Curriculum and Teaching from Michigan State University. Our family, including our two children, Alyson and Matthew, and our beloved standard poodle, Oakley, has been a profound blessing and our primary ministry focus. For 18 years, we’ve been part of Living Hope Church, serving as youth pastors for nearly 12 years until June 2025, and I continue to serve in children’s ministry.

Joining the TCCS staff has been an honor. I’m inspired by the school’s commitment to keeping Christ at the center of all we do, fostering genuine partnerships with students and their families. What sets TCCS apart is the depth of relationships built on our shared faith, creating a unique community where administrators, teachers, staff, and families work together for the students’ best. Our core values are so interconnected that they form a powerful foundation, making it hard to single out just one. If you’re seeking a supportive community dedicated to your growth and open to true partnership, TCCS is the place to be. It’s a remarkable environment where everyone—students, parents, and staff—encourages one another to thrive.

Mrs. Mary Brown

Registrar

I’m Mary Brown, the Registrar at Traverse City Christian School (TCCS). I grew up in Big Rapids, Michigan, where my parents worked at Ferris State University for over 30 years. Being raised in a small town with lifelong friends from kindergarten through high school was a true gift. I played varsity tennis and loved singing in the school choir. After earning my Bachelor’s in Hotel/Restaurant Management from Ferris State, I spent a year in Vail, Colorado, before returning to Michigan. My career path has been diverse, including roles as a Human Resource Assistant, Catering Manager, Daycare Teacher, and Wedding Planner. Now, I’m married to Scott Brown, and we have two middle schoolers, Braden and Kaylee, who are best friends and love activities like basketball, golf, volleyball, tennis, skiing, and wakeboarding. We live near Green Lake in Interlochen, where we enjoy biking, walking, playing outside, and watching home renovation shows together as a family.

At TCCS, I’m thrilled to work in a biblically sound, God-honoring environment where my kids are excited to attend and are known and cared for by the entire staff. My family has been part of West Side Community Church for over 13 years, where Scott and I co-lead a small group, assist with greeting, visitor check-in, and the welcome center, while Scott also teaches in the KidSide program and leads a men’s discipleship group. What sets TCCS students apart is the Christ-centered environment that equips them to live out their faith in the real world while receiving an excellent academic education. The core value of Authentic Biblical Community inspires me most, as it stretches students’ faith and is truly lived out at TCCS. To parents considering TCCS, I encourage you to visit, tour the halls, and meet our community—you’ll feel the difference. The investment in a Christian education here is invaluable, and you won’t regret it.

My name is Kerri Diemer, and I was born and raised in Michigan. I married my high school sweetheart, Brent, and together we have two wonderful children, Nixon and Piper. Being their mom is truly one of my greatest joys! I began college in 2001 as an education major, but my path took a turn toward science. I earned a Biomedical Degree with a minor in Chemistry and went on to work in medical research at Michigan State University. However, God had other plans for me. After many years, He led me back to education, and this has been my favorite job ever! I loved teaching 5th grade at TCCS, and I am thrilled to now teach middle school math.

Finance and Enrollment

I’m Faith Erickson, the Business Office Manager at Traverse City Christian School (TCCS). Originally from the foothills of Western North Carolina, I grew up attending a small Christian school where my father taught math to middle and high school students. My school days were filled with playing volleyball and cheering for basketball games, and I still root for the UNC Tarheels and Detroit Lions. I met my husband, Jeremy, at Pensacola Christian College, and we’ve been happily married for seventeen years. We have three wonderful children—Kylee and Shelby, who are enrolled at TCCS, and our two-year-old, Sadie, who we hope will join them one day. My family attends Buckley Tabernacle, where I’ve served in the nursery and taught K-3rd children’s church, connecting with the community through these roles.

At TCCS, I cherish the family-like atmosphere that makes working here so special. As an extrovert, I find joy in getting to know both my coworkers and the students. The students at TCCS stand out for their kindness and love toward their peers and teachers, creating a supportive environment. Of TCCS’s core values, the Whole-Child Emphasis inspires me the most. Having been a teacher myself, I value the commitment to a well-rounded education that nurtures not just academics but also spiritual and social-emotional growth. To parents considering TCCS, I’d say it’s a place where teachers build strong bonds with students, meeting them where they are academically, socially, and spiritually. Your child will find a nurturing environment here to thrive and grow.

I’m Lisa Falk, the Preschool Director and Teacher at Traverse City Christian School (TCCS). I grew up in Huntington Woods, a suburb of Detroit near the Detroit Zoo, and attended Zion Christian School in Troy, Michigan, for most of my grade school and high school years. After high school, I worked three jobs and served as a nanny while pursuing my education, eventually earning a bachelor’s degree and Michigan Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education with endorsements in Social Studies and Early Childhood. I taught kindergarten for five years in Hamtramck, Michigan, before moving to Traverse City, where I worked as the Lead Preschool Teacher for the Grand Traverse Band of Chippewa and Ottawa Indians for five years, an experience I deeply cherished. My husband, Noah, and I have a wonderful daughter, Lydia, who has been a TCCS student for nine years, and we adore our porch kitty, Dusty, who loves bird-watching while we enjoy exploring Northern Michigan.

At TCCS, I’m grateful to be part of a community that teaches from a biblical worldview, with teachers and staff who genuinely care about students and their learning environment. My family attends Harvest Community Church, where we enjoy the worship and sense of community. What makes TCCS students stand out is their love for Christ and others, shaped by our Whole-Child approach, which inspires me the most among our core values. This approach fosters Godly character alongside academic confidence, preparing students to shine their light in their future careers and lives. To families considering TCCS, I’d say this community truly values your child and your family, offering a nurturing environment where they can grow spiritually, academically, and personally.

MS/HS Spanish

I’m Amanda Keene, the Middle and High School Spanish Teacher at Traverse City Christian School (TCCS). Born and raised in Traverse City, I’m proud to be a TCCS graduate myself. Growing up, I was active in competitive gymnastics, volleyball, and tennis, and I still love getting outside to hike and travel. My husband, Chris, also a Traverse City native, and I have a daughter named Isabel. A couple of years ago, we began attending West Side Community Church, where we’ve found a welcoming church home and lead a small group together, fostering meaningful connections within our faith community.

At TCCS, I cherish being part of a community of believers who support both my spiritual and professional growth. It’s a blessing to worship, pray, and serve alongside our students, creating a unique environment where faith and learning intertwine. Our big/little buddy program stands out, as it showcases the caring hearts of our students, with older kids mentoring younger ones to make them feel valued. The core values of Christlike-Character Development and Whole-Child Emphasis inspire me most, as they ensure students learn not just academics but also how to interact with others in a Godly way and navigate real-life challenges in a safe space. To families considering TCCS, I’d ask what matters most in their educational experience and encourage them to have their child(ren) shadow a class to feel the supportive, faith-filled atmosphere firsthand.

HS English and Literature

I’m Breanna Kooiman, the high school English and Literature teacher at TC Christian, and I’m thrilled to be part of this tight-knit community. Growing up in Wisconsin, I learned to love the simple things—like a good game of Rook (never Euchre!) and judging towns by whether they had a Kwik Trip on the corner. I traded Wisconsin’s rolling hills for the cornfields of Sioux Center, IA, where I attended Dordt University, surrounded by hardworking people and small-town charm. When I’m not teaching, you’ll find me lost in a book, hiking trails at national parks, or binge-watching crime documentaries with friends. My home is a little greener thanks to a few hardy cacti and my trusty ZZ plant, and I find joy in worshiping at West Side Community Church.

In the classroom, I’m passionate about helping my students grow not just as communicators but as Christlike individuals. I want them to feel confident in their writing and speaking, but more than that, I hope they learn to reflect Jesus in how they interact with others. Through the stories we read together, we explore empathy and build character, diving into narratives that challenge us to see the world through different eyes. I love the supportive environment of our school—it’s a safe, caring place where teachers and students form close connections, and I feel encouraged every day to pour into my students’ lives.

I’m Deanna Langhorst, the Kindergarten Teacher at Traverse City Christian School (TCCS). I grew up in Owosso, Michigan, and attended Central Michigan University, where I cheered for my favorite sports team, the MSU Spartans. My passions lie outdoors, whether I’m hiking, relaxing at the beach, or paddleboarding. I’m married to Ed, and we have two daughters, Madelynn and Katelynn, along with a yellow lab and two kittens who keep our home lively. At Mission Hill Church, I contribute by helping with Vacation Bible School during the summer, fostering faith in young children within our community.

What I love most about TCCS is the family-like community and the incredible support system among staff, students, and parents. This supportive atmosphere sets TCCS apart from other schools, creating a nurturing environment where everyone feels valued. Among our core values, Christlike-Character Development inspires me the most, as it guides our students to grow in kindness, integrity, and faith. To families considering TCCS, I warmly invite you to visit, meet our staff, and see firsthand what makes our school special—a place where your child can thrive in a caring, faith-centered community.

Kindergarten Aide

I’m Robyn Mead, a Kindergarten and Elementary Aide at Traverse City Christian School (TCCS). I grew up in Bay City, Michigan, graduated high school in Vicksburg, and studied Child Development and Elementary Education at Michigan State University. After moving to Traverse City, I worked in the Way to Grow school readiness program before dedicating 21 years to raising my three children, all of whom have attended TCCS—one has graduated from college, one recently finished high school, and one is in middle school. My involvement with TCCS began as a volunteer and Moms in Prayer, making my role as a staff member a natural step forward. I love working with young children and being part of a team dedicated to impacting students’ lives for Christ—it’s a true joy and privilege to contribute to this mission. My family spent nearly 20 years at East Bay Calvary Church, where I participated in the Hearts For God women’s Bible study and Children’s Church ministry, and we now attend New Hope Community Church, where I value the teaching and fellowship.

At TCCS, I cherish the children, supportive families, staff camaraderie, and unwavering commitment to Christ. The school’s biblical worldview, family-like K-12 community, and sense of togetherness set it apart. While all core values are interconnected, my work in kindergarten and on the elementary playground and lunchroom focuses heavily on Whole-Child Emphasis and Christlike-Character Development within the context of Authentic Biblical Community. I help students navigate feelings, relationships, and conflicts in a respectful, Christ-like way. To families considering TCCS, I’d say no school is perfect, and every child is unique, but our staff is devoted to personally investing in each student—not just academically but in fulfilling our mission to glorify God, partner with parents, and equip students to transform the world for Jesus Christ.

Director of Family Relations

I’m Craig O’Connor, the Director of Family Relations at Traverse City Christian School (TCCS), where I focus on Admissions and Enrollment, Brand Marketing, and Community Outreach. Originally from New Zealand, I met my wife, Jinny, a Traverse City native, while serving in the military, where her aircrew worked alongside my unit. I immigrated to the U.S. in 1987, became a citizen in 2002, and remain a devoted fan of the New Zealand All Blacks rugby team. In my spare time, I enjoy DIY projects around the house. Jinny and I, married since 1987, have two daughters, Katie (TCCS Class of 2012) and Margaret (TCCS Class of 2015), and Finn (we’re a dog-loving family, always adopting rescues). Jinny and I attend City Church, where I play drums on the worship team. Katie is a worship leader at Resurrection Life in TC, and Margaret and her husband, Sean, who live in the Seattle area, attend Good Life Church in Tacoma.

The tight-knit community at TC Christian is what makes it truly special, with our smaller size fostering close relationships among staff, students, and parents. TCCS students stand out for their respect toward parents and teachers and their care for one another, nurtured through programs like our Buddy program and small group ministry. Of our core values, the Biblical Worldview inspires me most, serving as the foundation for everything we do. To families considering TCCS I’d say this: despite our smaller size and the financial commitment, choosing TCCS was the best investment Jinny and I made for our daughters. Their faith walk, service commitment, and work ethic, along with the friendships they choose, all reflect the school’s positive impact. We get one shot at raising the children God gave us into adulthood. TC Christian offers a one-of-a-kind opportunity to raise your kids in an environment that values faith, family, friendships, and learning.

My name’s Bobbi Strehl and I’m so excited to be teaching at Traverse City Christian School! I graduated from Cornerstone University with a degree in Elementary Education many years ago, but have been blessed to spend the past 16 years at home raising my children. Before becoming a mom, I worked as a nanny for several years, served as a camp counselor, and was actively involved in youth group ministry. Recently, I felt God’s clear nudge that it was time for a change for our family — and I trusted that He would open the door to the perfect opportunity. I’m so grateful that His plan has led me here, where I can finally put my degree to use while still being close to my kids, Olivia (Class of 2027) and Gray (Class of 2030) during the school day. Some of my favorite moments over the years have been volunteering, substitute teaching, and cheering from the stands at TCCS. Now, I’m thrilled to be part of the staff full-time, surrounded by familiar and friendly faces. I already love the kids and my fellow staff members, and I can’t wait for a wonderful school year ahead!

I am so excited to be part of the TC Christian family. I grew up in Michigan and graduated from Hope College with my BA; I also met my husband of 22 years, Will. We had lived in Florida since 2007, where I taught and we raised our family of three daughters. In 2025, we moved back to Michigan from Florida. Our oldest, Madison, just graduated from Traverse City Central and will be attending Central Michigan University to study athletic training. Our middle daughter, Lily, graduates in 2029, and our youngest, Charlotte, is set to graduate in 2032. I am entering my 23rd year of teaching and am so excited to continue teaching my passion – art! My favorite medium is ceramics! But colored pencil drawing is a close second. In my free time you will probably find me out running. I am currently training for the Detroit International half marathon. In the summer, I love going to the beach and looking for rocks and hiking. You will also find me on the slopes in the wintertime skiing. My favorite Bible verse is Colossians 3:23 “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.”
