Spring Service Day
Last Friday, Traverse City Christian School’s Spring Service Day embodied the themes of GATHER, GROW, and GO, uniting students in a powerful display of community and service. The day began with middle and high school (MS/HS) students GATHERING with their elementary buddies, laughing and working side-by-side on tasks like cleaning classrooms and tidying outdoor areas. This collaboration not only strengthened bonds across grades but also created a joyful sense of community, proving that serving together is a fun and meaningful way to connect.
As the morning progressed, the focus shifted to GROW, with MS/HS students joining their small group leaders for more demanding projects, such as landscaping and repairing school property structures, using tools to make a tangible difference. This mirrored Jesus’ example in Matthew 10:45, “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve,” teaching students to prioritize others’ needs and grow in humility and service.
Chris Murphy, TC Christian’s Facilities and IT Manager, oversaw the various projects and shared the following:
“I was overwhelmed on Friday as I reviewed the progress made during our school’s on-campus Service Day. The amount and quality of work performed by our K-12 student body was remarkable. Parents, you should be very pleased with the work ethic exhibited over the course of just a few hours. I am always impressed by what this community accomplishes when we join with unity of purpose, and I am very grateful for what was accomplished in the care of our school’s campus. More was accomplished in 3 hours of work than what the facilities team could have done with a number of weeks’ labor. From Mr. Gallegos, Mr. Adam, and myself, we say a hearty: thank you, thank you!”
By day’s end, the students were equipped to GO, carrying forward the lessons of serving selflessly to impact the world for Jesus Christ. Spring Service Day was more than a day of work—it was a vibrant step toward building a Christ-centered community ready to make a difference.
